Sept 21, 2017 Donation Recipient: The Evangeline Club

Our meeting tonight took place at the Cornwallis Inn, courtesy of tonight’s event sponsor SafeGuard. Yummy eats were provided by Callister’s Country Kitchen, and a gorgeous cake by Harvest Home Baking‘s owner Stacy Sperling.

With about 45 of our members in attendance in the ballroom, we heard first from Moms in Motion, our recipient from last quarter. Rachel Bedingfield gave us a very moving, heartfelt thank-you and talked about how the funds from the last meeting helped her group.

Tonight’s recipient: The Evangeline Club

The Evangeline Club (official name: Evangeline Recreation Society) of Berwick took the prize at tonight’s 100 Women meeting. A little bit about the charity:

The Evangeline Club is a non-profit organization located in the Apple Capital of the Annapolis Valley – Berwick, N.S – which provides a safe haven for people living with mental or physical health issues… or people that are lonely, or feel secluded, in everyday social environments.

Our mission is to advance general public awareness of those living with mental health issues and to decrease their social isolation by providing quality programs which aim to promote mental health through life skills, recreation and other activities provided by the Club.

The Evangeline Club offers:
– Coffee and tea
– Healthy breakfast and snack
– Daily newspapers
– “Improve your Look” program (free haircuts monthly)
– Care Connection program
– Transportation for Clinic and WIN Group (Women Independent Now)
– Monthly newsletter listing our events
– Member’s phone for access to local calls

As we heard in their presentation, the Club has recently met with some difficulties including a rat problem and a great deal of damage to much of their building, including their much-loved music therapy equipment. With our registration at the start of the meeting at 107 members, that means the Evangeline Club received $10,700 in donations!

AND the other 2 nominees got $1000 K-Rock radio campaign vouchers from K-Rock‘s Dora Dorman!

It was a beautiful event, and nearly all of us were moved to tears several times during the evening. Please check out our facebook page for a video of the final presentation (with apologies for the amateur video quality).
